Editor’s Note—May 2018

by Michael Hamline, Editor / Published May 2018

The May issue includes a wealth of information. First, readers of Cleaner Times who live in Minnesota and the Midwest should mark their calendars and plan to be in attendance at the Cleaning Equipment Trade Association’s (CETA) regional distributor meeting, which will be held in Minneapolis, MN, on June 11. To learn more details about the event so you can make plans to attend, turn to page 20.

Don’t miss the business opportunities that can be found in the articles, “Selling Surface Cleaners” on page 22 or “Selling to In Plant Systems” on page 32, both by Diane Calabrese. In the first article, Calabrese writes, “In fact, the list of all the places that require periodic cleaning of flat surfaces is so long, the real challenge is to try to think of exceptions.”

Mike Hansen, a sales manager with Dultmeier Sales out of Omaha, NE, corrects the misconception “that one model or style can be used for everything.” In fact, he says, “It is critical to know the application as well as the pressure and flow rating of their pressure washer.”

In the second article, Karl Loeffelholz, dealer division manager at Mi-T-M Corporation in Peosta, IA, notes, “Most in-plant hot water cleaning systems require no exhaust fumes. So, no gas engine and no diesel burners. They require an all-electric hot water pressure washer.” Plants deal with many regulatory agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). There are a number of standards that plants must meet.

Make sure to set aside time to read the company profile on PowerJet Pressure Cleaning Systems, which is located in Sussex Corner, New Brunswick, on page 6. Brad Howland is the current company president and talks about how the company was founded by his father in 1982. It is a family business with more than 100 employees. Brad Howland explains, “It is important to note that PowerJet products are only sold through brick and mortar authorized distribution centers in Canada and the USA. There are no online sales, and anything that comes out of this New Brunswick manufacturing facility is built to last.”

As May arrives, don’t forget this Memorial Day to honor the memories of those men and women who have given their lives so that we might enjoy our freedoms.
