This past October CETA’s Annual Convention was held in Chicago, IL. The Convention, held from October 24–28, coincided with the Chicago Cubs appearing in their first World Series in 71 years. The World Series started play in Cleveland, IN, and the Cubs left with a 1-1 tie. However, they lost their first two games at home and in a best of seven series, it looked bleak for the Cubs to come back from a 3-1 deficit. And yet as we all know, the Cubs won the final game at Wrigley and then went on to beat the Cleveland Indians at their home stadium, Progressive Field, in the final two games of the Series, including a final game seven that went into an exciting extra 10th-inning that the Cubs won, securing their first World Series title win in more than 108 years. It was a testament to hard work and a never-give-up attitude.
In a very real way the Chicago Cubs and their attitude are a microcosm of what I see in the pressure washing industry. First of all, I clearly see a testament to hard work in the industry. Almost every month, we have profiles of companies and the individuals who make up those companies that have a vision, have established goals, and put in the labor to reach those goals. I see this hard work in the trade shows Cleaner Times attends, such as CETA, PWNA, and The Huge Convention to name a few, where new products are demoed, individuals are supplied with the education to grow their businesses, and vital relationships are formed that help people improve one another and their companies.
I also see the never-give-up attitude in the industry. There are ever-changing regulations, some good and some not so good, to deal with. These affect the way companies can do business, but there is a quickness to adapt where possible and from observing groups such as the CETA Technical Committee, a willingness to work with regulatory agencies to craft common-sense regulations and find exemptions for those regulations that would harm the industry. And I, for one, am glad that I see these every year instead of having to wait 71 or 108 years for the chance at victory!
Cleaner Times also wants to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
